It has been nearly 2 days since we departed from Summer Camp at Worth Ranch The Big Adventure and I think I am starting to catch up my sleep now. Before too much time passes I would like to take a minute to recognize a few accomplishments from camp and express gratitude on behalf of myself and the Troop to some individuals that helped make summer camp another great success.<br><br> First I would like to recognize a scout that was selected by his Merit Badge Counselor as the top student in his Merit Badge Class:<br> Spencer GourleyIndian Lore Congratulations to you Spencer!<br><br> Next I would like to brag on the entire group as Troop 17 walked away with two other awards as well.<br> The first award is the Top Campsite Award which has several aspects that were inspected and graded daily by independent judges. The judges graded on cleanliness of camp, cleanliness of latrines, camp gadgets (like the giant tower that we built), US flag flying, troop flag flying, etc. Our guys worked together as a team, younger and older scouts, and brought home the gold!<br> And the second group award was the Worth Ranch Honor Unit Award. This is awarded to the most outstanding troop at summer camp and is the highest troop level award given every year at summer camp. Troop 17 has won this award 8 years in a row now. Again all of our scouts worked together daily and came away with the top honor at Worth Ranch.<br> Way to go guys!!<br><br> None of this would have been possible without a great group of men, several of which have sons that have already aged out of scouts. While at summer camp these men taught First Aid Merit Badge classes, performed Boards of Review for advancement, served coffee to adults from other troops, counseled the Scoutmaster, hiked up to Kyle Mountain and so much more. Thank you to the group of gentlemen below that gave their time and/or vacation days to help make Summer Camp 2019 a great success for the Boy Scouts of Troop 17:<br> Mr. Virden, Mr. Goldthwaite, Mr. Upchurch, Mr. Marshall, Dr. Mandel, Mr. Turner, Mr. Lyles, Mr. Witt.<br><br> 2019 is a landmark year for Worth Ranch as they celebrate their 90th year of welcoming scouts to summer camp.<br> I am pleased that I was able to be part of this historic anniversary year and that your sons were there to be part of it as well!<br> Looking forward to a great Summer Camp at Worth Ranch in 2020!<br> Mr. Harveson
