I am looking for a Scout that would be interested in being the Troops historian. In 2001, several Scouts created a comprehensive history of the Troop. I would like to see someone update it and then be able to hand it off to the next Scout in the future. If you are interested, please see your PL/SPL. Parents, I would also like to have someone serve as an advisor to the Troop Historian. We have the material already and will be converting it for use on the website. Part of one of the adult Scouting classes that I led focused on leaving a legacy. I have not quite figured out what my legacy will be but I would like us to at least keep track of what we did (and to be honest, we do not always get to choose our legacy time sometimes decides that for us). If you want to help leave your mark on the Troop, advising on the writing the history of the Troop may be something for you. Mr. David Taylor has graciously accepted the appointment as Concessions Manager for the Troop. We are looking at a couple of different fundraisers including TCU games, Blue and Gold Banquets and the Texas/OU game. We have about $3,500 still to pay off the bus and would like to replenish the Troop general fund. The challenge with the TCU games is that 3 of them will be during Troop campouts (9/11, 10/9 and 11/13). We will need approximately 10 people to work each game. If we can get some parents to assist on the above dates, we could commit to doing the season at TCU. TCU has asked us to participate again and wants to support us and Scouting. We have a couple of potential stand locations and definitely wont be doing the same tiny stand that we did last year. **If you (parents) can help with TCU, please let Mr. Taylor know or drop me a note.** For Merit Badge Counselors, I have created a new blogging system so that you can post information on the website specifically about your merit badge course. If you are interested in using this, please let me know. We have a number of features, including the ability to restrict who can read the blog or post to it. Speaking of the website, if you have not logged in recently, please make sure that you have access. Each Scout should also check that they can get to the site. Well be doing lots more via the web very soon and you will need to be able to log in to access some of the items. Also on the website, Ive created a new Trip Blog to try to keep up Mr. Dukes trip recaps as we move forward. I posted a note about the Burgers Lake trip already. These are available to anyone. For the OA members, the next Chapter Meeting will be Monday, August 30th at Arborlawn UMC Youth Center at 7:00 pm. Chapter Elections will be held. This is also the same time and place as the District Roundtable for September. One last item we will have several potential Scouts visiting the troop over the next several weeks (as many as 20) and would appreciate that parents that have been around the Troop for some time reach out to visiting parents so that I can focus on the visiting boys and Scoutmaster Conferences. Thanks, as usual, for your support! Mr. Turner
