There are several Merit Badge courses going on right now including 4 "Throw Back" merit badges only available this year. They are signaling, tracking, carpentry, and pathfinding. If you are interested see Mr. Lyles. See the notes below and the individual blogs on the website. Registration for Philmont Crews is also still online. Our next campout is in Broken Bow, OK. It is a canoe and hiking trip about 4 hours away. Since we have to rent canoes, we would like to know who will be attending by Tuesday. Boys should let your patrol leaders know. The cost of the trip will be $50. Poop sheets will be online shortly. Adults can signup online or in the Scout hut. See you on Tuesday. Mr. Turner From Mr. Mallison... Mr. Mallison will be at the Scout Lodge about 6:45 before the meeting Tuesday to work with scouts on the signaling merit badge. One of the requirements is to build a buzzer for sounding out Morse code. A kit of parts (battery included) is $5.00. So bring $5.00 (much cheaper than going to Radio Shack). It is easy to build and only takes a few minutes. A sheet of Semaphore signals and Morse code were passed out at the last meeting. If you didnt get one, they are easily found on the internet. Search for "learning Semaphore" and "learning Morse code". Dont try to learn it all at once. Learn A-G in Semaphore and learn your first name in Morse. Learning how to signal "SOS" (the universal distress signal) is always handy to know also. Extra points will be given for long first names, last names and knowing what SOS stands for. From Mr. Edmonds... To the scouts in PMMB class, We got off to a GREAT start last Tuesday! Thank you for being on time and for bringing the "tools of the trade" e.g. (thats Latin for exempli gratia, or for example) pen, pamphlet, notebook & a thirst for knowledge. At our first meeting we discussed the requirements and went over what you and I expect from the course. We will meet again Tuesday the 21st at 6:45 pm (1845) at the Harry Male Scout Lodge. Please be on time, because we have a lot of material to cover. Read (and I dont mean skimming at the last minute) the chapter on "time management". Also, begin the section on making a budget. You may begin to frame your budget at anytime. (remember this requirement takes a minimum of 13 weeks) If you are using good personal management skills you will find time to accomplish this before Tuesday. Bring a COPY of your budget for me to review (you keep the original). Thank you, Mr. Edmonds p.s. If you missed the first meeting, get up to speed on the material and be there on Tuesday.
