Hi folks,
Please make sure to read through it all of this important information.
Kandersteg progress to date
The great news is we have raised almost $11,000 to date - way to go! Here is the general breakdown: bulb sales $150; bake sales $175; TCU games $520; t-shirt sales $550; BBQ dinner $820; scout cards $1,125; dinners $2,500; garage sale $3,600 and the balance is miscellaneous donations. In addition, the trip dates are set July 8-July 16, 2023 and camp sites, tent rentals and food service have all been booked.
Fundraising next steps
TCU games start in August, and we have 9 parents with their TABC certification. We must get 2-3 more parents to join us, so we have enough to staff the booth. Please email me at bisgur@hotmail.com or text at (817) 821-5158 to volunteer. When school starts, we will have our next Enchiladas Ole fundraiser and the scout garage sale will be in October.
Garage sale drop off
Last chance this summer to clean out those garages and drop off at the scout lodge on Tuesday June 28, 7pm in front of the St. Stevens undercroft.
Prepping for Kandersteg
#1 - Check passports - make sure you they dont expire anytime near the trip date. There is a local passport office at the downtown post office and general requirements can be found online. Passports for your scout and anyone traveling are not handled by Troop 17.
#2 - Save money for the trip -as soon as we can get the airfare, we will have a good idea of total trip cost. It might be a good idea to identify and save some funds now in preparation for the deposit. Our fundraising goal is to make the trip as affordable as possible but there will still be more costs than we can fundraise for.
#3 - Chaperone requirements - for those parents who want to be chaperones, you will need to complete training through the BSA website (if you are not already an assistant scoutmaster) myscouting.org by taking the on-line youth protection training course, and either the troop committee training or the assistant scoutmaster training. Once your training is complete you can fill out an adult application through your scoutmaster and pay a $60 registration fee. None of these tasks are onerous but they do take advanced planning to set aside time to register and take the on-line courses.
#4 - Join the effort - if you are new to the troop or havent had the opportunity to contribute to this amazing effort, please let us know. We are a year out and you will want to make sure you and your scout were part of what got us to Switzerland!
