Based on reports from former Scouts and Scouters in the Palo Pinto area, things have improved. Worth Ranch is still standing with no fire damage at this time. A Federal firefighting management team is now in place and has leveraged resources from around the country to fight the fires in the Possum Kingdom (PK) area. The weather has improved with higher humidity levels and cooler temperatures. Winds are still a factor. The firefighting teams have built a fire break to hold the line at the ranch southwest of Worth. Highway 4 to Worth Ranch is still closed. Texas Forest Service says the PK fires are now just 25% contained. We are still evaluating our plans for next weekend. WE CAN HELP. We are collecting donations for the firefighters in the Palo Pinto areas. If you would like to donate, make your check out to Troop 17 and drop it off at the Scout Lodge or at my house. Please mark the check for "Firefighter Support". They are also looking for "health kits" for both firefighters and displaced residents. Click this link (http://www.troop17.net/docs_public/firefightersupport.doc) for information on how to create the health kit. You can drop them off at my house (4361 Westdale) on the front porch (Ill put a box out tonight) or at First United Methodist Church (800 W. 5th Street Downtown) during office hours 8a-5p. For checks, Ill put an envelope on my side gate or you can slide them under the door at the lodge. You can also donate directly to the Red Cross by going online to http://chisholmtrail.redcross.org or by texting REDCROSS to 90999 to donate $10 to the national Red Cross organization. Thank you, Mr. Turner
