There are several things going on this Tuesday: If you are in a merit badge class, please check the website blogs for the latest updates. Worth Ranch summer camp deposit is overdue. If you would like to be part of the premier event for the year, please bring $100 to Mrs. Richardson to hold your spot. The dates for the Big Adventure dates are June 19th-25th. All new Scouts should be working on completing the requirements for the Tenderfoot rank before the camp. To all Scouts and adults from Dr. Mathe: We are still meeting on Thursdays at 7pm for the "Philmont Bootcamp" we have a good workout regimen and even if youre not going to Philmont you are welcome to come workout with us. We meet in the parking lot north of St. Stephens Church around the block from the scout hut. If we get enough people we could add another day. We work mainly on lower body, core strength and cardio. For Philmont trekkers if you are getting in shape on your own I suggest running, biking or brisk walking three time a week and work in some hills for strengthening. Also I suggest push-ups, sit-ups and planks for core strength. Wildfire update several people have been out to Worth and found that conditions at the camp are normal. The view from the Captain Kidd Ring is somewhat blackened at this point. Both School House Mountain and Liberty Bell Mountain were charred by fire. We owe a huge thanks to the unnamed helicopter pilot that spent hours pulling water from the river and pouring it on the mountain as the fire approached the ranch. Without his efforts and the efforts from hundreds of other firefighters, there would be no Worth Ranch to camp in this weekend, or this summer. The Forest Service is currently reporting that the fire is 70% contained (across the entire PK area, there is no fire directly threatening Worth) with 805 fire personnel still on the ground. Thankfully, they have estimated that 1.5 to 2 inches of rain fell on the Worth Ranch area in the last two days. The Longhorn Council has said that Worth Ranch will be open this weekend (there is also a canoe race there). Please remember that we are taking donations for the Palo Pinto Volunteer Fire department. If you can lend some support to those that helped keep Worth Ranch from burning, drop off a check at the Scout Lodge or my house (envelope on the driveway gate). Make it out to Troop 17 and put PPVFD in the memo line. We are also collecting health kits. More information at http://www.troop17.net/docs_public/firefightersupport.doc. Mr. Turner
