Its that time of year again! Just as school starts, Troop 17 ramps up the energy for another program year. Please find attached for your information a REVISED Troop 17 calendar; changes and additions have been highlighted in yellow. The October campout has been moved up one weekend due to a large number of conflicting events on the originally scheduled weekend. We also have added a couple of one-time fundraising events. The original schedule was handed out a couple weeks ago. If you didnt see it, ask your scout why. Our first event is our annual day trip to Burgers Lake. We meet tomorrow at the Scout Lodge at 2:00 PM and plan to leave by 2:15. Well be back in time for the normal meeting ending. If youve already started school (oh boy!) then come on out after and well bring you back! Permission slip and poop sheet are attached. Attention Order of the Arrow members and Candidates. The Fall Ordeal at SR2 is August 28-30, 2009. This is your last chance to complete your ordeal without having to be re-elected. Bring a completed registration form (available at http://www.longhorncouncil.org/oa/forms/2009OrdealForm.pdf) and $40 to Burgers Lake and Mr. Duke will take both to the Council Office. What a deal! Members, take this chance to support your fellow Troop 17 scouts and seal your membership by testing for Brotherhood. Bring a completed registration form and $15 and Mr. Duke will take both to the Council Office for you too. Members who would just like to come support our guys, complete the registration form and bring $15 and guess what? Mr. Duke can get you registered too. How bout them Rangers! Our Texas Rangers won the series against the Boston Red Sox and have a game lead on the BoSox in the wildcard race! During this series, Troop 17 made mucho dinero in our concession stand. It looks like were well staffed during August but we need parents and scouts aged 16 and older to SIGN UP TO HELP during the month of September. Who know, if the Rangers make the playoffs, we may have a booth into October. Lets take this opportunity to hit a fundraising homerun! Sign up at the new and improved http://www.troop17.net/. Also attached is the latest Troop roster. We have had many complaints from Patrol Leaders and Staff that they cannot contact Scouts because the contact information on the roster is incorrect. Please review your information and reply to Mr. Duke with any corrections you may have. If you would like, we can include both the Scouts cell phone and home phone. Parents, please make sure you are sharing these emails with your scouts. Many of the scouts do not bring pen and paper to take notes during announcements during the circle at the end of the meeting so these emails and the phone calls they should be receiving from their Patrol Leaders must give them all the information they need to be active and informed Troop 17 scouts. As we approch the due date for everyone to make their deposit for Kandersteg ($250 on October 1, remember?), we understad that there may be a number of questions in your mind. The Kandersteg planning committee has been meeting monthly and communicating almost daily regarding the trip. Airfare is a large portion of the trip and airlines cannot quote airfare before 330 days prior to the flight so we will be unable to provide a definite trip cost for a little while. Look for a flyer in an upcoming email with more information regarding the activities, schedule, and probable cost of the trip. We also expect to make a more detailed presentation at the end of the Court of Honor on September 22. Finally, an update on the search for a new bus ... A small group of folks have been actively searching for the next Troop 17 bus and we may have found it in Oklahoma. Unfortunately it is $5,000 more than we have available for a new bus. Were still negotiating and we also continue to seach but newer buses with lower miles and good engines are naturally more expensive.
