T17 - Campout Recap

We had a great campout last weekend at Sid Richardson Scout Ranch (SR2). 35 Scouts attended with 12 or so adults. Many of the Scouts got their first experience shooting a rifle and/or a shotgun. It was also obvious that several had been shooting before. I made some notes and updated my list of shooters in case of the zombie apocalypse. A huge thanks goes out to Mr. Shawn Cox and Mr. Rob Auld for running the ranges this weekend. Without their skill and training, we would not have been able to put on this event. We could use several more parents to be NRA and BSA trained range masters. If you could help out, let me know. We also owe a big thanks to Mr. Al Witt for driving the bus this weekend. In addition to getting us to SR2, Mr. Witt drove the bus back and forth across the camp to the ranges and our campsites. Thanks also to all the OF that attended this weekend and helped out. We cannot survive without your continued assistance. Next campout I am not really clear on the program yet. Based on discussions with the Staff, it will either be a "Triathlon Campout" or a "Chill Out Campout". Apparently, it could go either way with just minor changes in the program. We will be camping at Mineral Wells State Park. For those of you with finals starting on Monday (after the campout), it is just a short drive down the road. Announced at the campout... I announced at the campout that we have made some leadership changes effective Sunday. Jacob M. has been promoted to Senior Patrol Leader. William L. will continue in his role as Assistant Senior Patrol Leader. Adam T. has been promoted to Assistant Senior Patrol Leader. Jay F. has been promoted to Quartermaster. Canston F. will now be a retired SPL as his 18th birthday is quickly approaching. Please congratulate these fine Scouts and give them your support. Please also thank Canston for his service and leadership over the past months. Thank you and see you tonight, Mr. Turner
