The Big Adventure is only DAYS AWAY! Worth Ranch Summer Camp 2012 starts on Sunday. Adults - Anyone spending the night will need to have a VALID medical form and a VALID Youth Protection Training certificate. Medical forms are on the web (http://forms.troop17.net). You must have completed an in person YPT class this year. If you have not done that, I believe that one will be offered in camp. BRING A COPY OF YOUR CARD WITH YOU. Parents and Scouts, the gear list and information sheet has been posted to the website http://www.troop17.net under "Campout Info" on the front page. Please read it thoroughly! There are a handful of people that do not have a valid medical form on file. Scouts MUST have a valid medical form on file to attend. A medical form is valid if it signed off by a physician within the last 12 months. FORMS FROM LAST YEAR WILL NOT WORK. If you need a form, you can download one from http://forms.troop17.net. (I hope your physician is flexible!) Parents should have Scouts at Worth Ranch by noon to check in. The entire Troop should be ready to head to the medical check in by 12:30. Wear your class A uniform with a bathing suit underneath. BE SURE TO BRING... Class A uniform - we wear it to dinner every day. Prior year Troop shirts (WR2009, 2010, 2011), the grey T17 Class B shirt, and a plain white shirt (or the super frog white shirt if you have one from previous years) MEDICAL FORM if you have not turned it in already - Must be the current form signed by a physician within the last 12 months Final payment - if you owe any additional money for camp registration Merit badge books MONEY for merit badge expenses (Archery, Rifle, Shotgun, Climbing) $10-$20 plus money for the trading post Closed toe shoes - no flip flops in camp! A watch - sundials are not accurate enough (and no "fancy watches" - you know what Wilder meant by those) Toothbrush and toothpaste *** Paper and a stamped envelope to write a note home - REQUIRED *** Swimming, Lifeguard and Lifesaving Merit Badge students will need a long sleeve shirt, long pants, and a pair of shoes that all can get wet DO NOT BRING... Fireworks, weapons, sheath knives, axes, pets, bows and arrows, Nintendos, Game Boys, X-Box 360s, Commodore 64s, iPods or CELL PHONES (they will be confiscated) If you are interested in earning the Worth Ranch Scout Award and this is your 3rd WR summer camp (or more), please see me so we can discuss this with the Program Director at camp. PARENTS, send your Scouts mail (and send it today)! Address it to Scout Name, Troop #17 June 18 - June 24 Worth Ranch Boy Scout Camp P.O. Box 27 Palo Pinto, TX 76484 If you have a family emergency during the week, I will have my cell phone (817-239-0166) or you can contact the camp office at 940-659-2195. Once again, for emergencies only. Scouts may not leave camp with anyone but their parent or legal guardian. If you want to have someone else pick them up on Saturday, please bring me a note with stating that you grant permission for your Scout to leave with Mr. or Mrs. X. Prescription medication must be in the original bottle from the pharmacy and must include the name of the Scout, the date, the name of the prescribing doctor, and the correct dosage. They will be taken to the Health Lodge for proper storage. Scouts should know what to take and when to take it. For medications for life threatening conditions (inhalers, allergy kits, etc), Scouts should carry these themselves, just like they would outside of camp. Over the counter medication will be maintained in the Troop first aid kit. The name of the Scout should be on the package. For those wanting to eat in the dining hall on parents night (THURSDAY), I need a count before you leave on Sunday (you can also email it to me now). Please plan on being at WR at 6:00pm to eat in the dining hall. Adults are $8 and siblings under 10 are $5. By Thursday, your Scout may want food from the "outside world" so be sure to check with them now. No persons under the age of 18 are permitted to drive on Scout property. ...and finally... be sure to read the gear list posted on the website. After you read it, read it again to be sure you have what you need. This is the 83rd year of summer camps at WR. They know what they are doing and our gear list follows their guidelines. This is going to be a great summer camp! We have almost 50 Scouts attending this year. I look forward to seeing you all at Worth on Sunday. Mr. Turner PS Did I mention what campsite we are in? (drumroll please...) TODD!
