The poop sheet and permission slip are posted on the website under Campout Info. Please be sure to bring your permission slip and money tonight. We are going to Worth Ranch. If you need to arrive late or leave early, please be sure to see me tonight (as usual). I received several notes from Mr. Greyson Bogle, climbing instructor, about preparations for the campout and merit badge ----- I need every scout who plans on earning the merit badge to have purchased and read a copy of the book before they get to Worth Ranch. All climbers will need snug shoes to climb in that should NOT be hiking boots, and clothes that fit well enough to not get tangled in the equipment, or hinder a climbers movement (so they must also be comfortable). At the meeting I will need them to learn the following knots: figure 8 on a bight, figure 8 follow through, water knot, the double-fishermans, and the safety knot (sometimes called a double overhand, though I believe that is technically incorrect). The water knot actually requires webbing; they can practice this one at home and in class with backpack straps. Here is a link to the best knot tying website Ive found if they would like to get started early or are still having trouble after the meeting: http://www.animatedknots.com/indexclimbing.php?LogoImage=LogoGrog.jpg&Website=www.animatedknots.com&fb_source=message ------ Also, adults attending the campout should take the online course "Climb on Safely". This is available on the Scouting website http://myscouting.scouting.org under Boy/Varsity Scout training. As usual, your Youth Protection Training (YPT) should be up to date with a copy in our book. Please be sure that you have saved December 14-16 for the next campout - Flour Wars! One final reminder, as football season wraps up for most high schools, Scouts should be aware of their participation rating. We require all Scouts to have a participation rating of 50%. This includes meetings and campouts. If you have not been camping with us in a while, please plan on attending while you can. I would hate for someone to not be able to advance in rank because of their participation rating. If you have a question about your current rating, please see me or Mr. Rekieta. Thanks and see you tonight! Mr. Turner
