Greetings to all Troop 17 Families, I hope everyone is settling into the new year and the routine of school and scouting activities. Last fall I sent out a brief note about the Longhorn Councils Friends of Scouting campaign 2014. It is now in full swing, and I would like for each family to begin to think about how they might be able to contribute. The big push this year is family participation. The amount you pledge does not have to be a lot. Our goal is for each family just to make a contribution. One of the questions corporate donors ask when approached is, "Are the scouting families invested in the FOS campaign?" They really dont ask a dollar amount so much as, how many, or what percentage of families are participating. Next month at our Court of Honor (February 18th), I will be making the formal presentation. In the meantime I ask a couple of things. Be thinking how your family can budget a modest contribution and to make your contribution specifically through the troop. Each year many of us are invited to special meetings and asked to give through this wider community effort. This year, if the troop beats last years level of giving we will be rewarded with free advancement badges as our incentive. This could mean hundred of dollars to our troops budget! Thats about it for right now, I know 2014 is going to be a great year for our scouts, and I know each of you are looking forward to being a part of it. Yours in Scouting, Allen Edmonds Troop Committee Chairman
