Camps and Programs We have several major camps and programs planned for the next two years. I have listed them below. Please take some time to discuss these with your family. There are several that have commitment dates that we need to meet in order for the programs to be held. Costs listed do not take into account any fundraising earned by the Troop or Scouts. All of these are excellent Scouting programs that I encourage everyone that is eligible to attend. Program: Summer Camp - The Big Adventure 2014 Dates: June 22nd - June 28th - Worth Ranch Costs: Approximately $225. 1st payment due May 1st - $100. Age/Rank requirements: none Commit date: March 25th Registration link: http://www.troop17.net/management/register.asp?e=482 We would like to get a count of those planning on attending with the Troop (not on camp staff) by March 25th. This is not a firm commitment, but we need to put a deposit down by March 30th to ensure that we have space reserved. The Big Adventure is our annual resident camp. All Scouts are eligible to attend. More information can be found at http://www.longhorncouncil.org/uploads/85/8550d13f-4def-4892-a689-9c692893e51c.pdf. Could this be the year that we ski Kyle Mountain?!?! Program: 2014 High Adventure Trip - Red River Dates: July 12th-July 20th Costs: Approximately $275. 1st payment due April 15 - $100 Age/Rank requirements: none Commit date: April 15, 2014 Registration link: http://www.troop17.net/management/register.asp?e=481 The Troop heads back to Red River and Wheeler Peak for a week of outdoor adventures and hiking the highest peak in New Mexico! This trip is generally regarded as one of a Scouts favorite looking back at all the trips they have taken in their scouting years. We will spend the week in the national forest with side trips including rafting in the Rio Grande! Do not miss this event - it is a troop tradition that only rolls around every 6 years or so. For more information see the presentation online at www.troop17.net/docs_public/redriver2014.pdf. Program: Summer Camp - The Big Adventure 2015 Dates: TBD June, 2015 Costs: TBD Age/Rank requirements: none Commit date: March, 2015 Registration link: TBD (Placeholder for Summer Camp) Program: 2015 High Adventure Trip - Northern Tier Summer Canoe Trip Dates: TBD July, 2015 Costs: $1,250. $100 deposit due with commitment. Age/Rank requirements: 14 years old by July 1, 2015 and First Class Commit date: March 25, 2014*** Registration link: http://www.troop17.net/management/register.asp?e=483 This is the first time in a decade that the Troop has headed north to the Boundary Waters for a canoe adventure! We will spend 6 days on the water and 9 total days on the trip. Each canoeing crew will consist of 2 adults plus 4-6 scouts. Just like Philmont, this is a BSA high adventure base and we are required to provide two adults per crew. The BSA will provide a guide for the entire trip. Also just like Philmont, fees are non-refundable so all deposits and payments made to the Troop are non-refundable. We are very excited to present this trip to you and will have another presentation on the trip during the Troop meeting on March 18th starting at 8:15 (we will finish in time for you to take your Scouts home). More information can also be found online at www.troop17.net/docs_public/northerntier2015.pdf. ***Please note the commit date for this program - we must have our reservations in this early to ensure that we will have a slot at the canoe base. This is a very popular national scouting program and attendance is limited.*** Thank you, Mr. Turner
