The holidays have come and gone and Troop 17 is back to its regularly busy schedule... Dues are due. If you have not paid your dues your risk being dropped from the roster. This means you cant partake in all of the fun meetings and campouts Troop 17 does. How do you stay in? Pay your dues of $35 per scout or $25 per adult to Ms. Richardson or Mr. Lyles. The annual Greenbar and Invited guests campout is rapidly approaching on January 22-24, 2010. All scouts First Class and above are expected to attend this important and informative weekend campout at Worth Ranch. Mr. Duke will be calling or texting to see who will be able to attend. Elections for Order of the Arrow, the National Honor Society for Boy Scouts, will be held in mid-February. If your are First Class or above, have 15 nights camping in the last two years including only 1 long term camp (like Worth Ranch), and have not participated in the Ordeal (youd know if you had), you are eligible for election and will be on the ballot. If you are almost First Class, finish it up and youll be on the ballot too! There is no maximum number of scouts that can be elected. Do you need service hours? If you are not invited to the Greenbar campout, Mr. Turner has two Pinewood Derbies for which he will need help on January 23. The first is at roughly 10 AM and the second at roughly 3 PM. Need more information? Contact Mr. Turner directly at a meeting or by telephone. A revised roster is attached. It is always out of date due to advancement but please check to make sure your information is correct. The roster is also available at www.troop17.net and you can make corrections to your information there too. Patrol Leaders and Staff, the troop roster is now available at www.troop17.net. Not having a roster is no longer an excuse for not knowing whats going on in your patrol. Give your guys a call today and remind them about the meeting tomorrow! The schedule issued in the fall showed a Court of Honor in February. We are cancelling this Court of Honor and will hold a regular meeting. Weve had a slight slow down in advancement. Scouts: wrap up those partial merit badges from Worth Ranch last year! From Mr. E to the PMMB scouts: Hey PMMB scouts, Just a friendly reminder there is about a month left before the February 14th deadline to finish ALL the requirements for Personal Management. Now let me review just a couple of things. Because of the nature of this merit badge..... PERSONAL MANAGEMENT; 1. There are NO partials, in other words, ALL the work must completed by the deadline! Also, dont forget ALL requirements MUST be written out. 2. Do not wait to the last minute, if your work does not meet the high standards set forth at the beginning of the class in September, you will get to sit through my class again. OUCH! So, please refer to your notes if you have questions. 3. BIG HINT, I STRONGLY recommend that you present your notebook, (the paper one with brads and pockets) to me ASAP so I can review it, and you can make any additions or corrections BEFORE the deadline. Well, I think that about covers it. I look forward to reading through your notebooks, if you have any questions call my home and leave a message. As always Im out of town a lot these days, so please be patient if I dont return your call immediately. My e-mail address is allenedmonds@hotmail.com I thank you in advance for your hard work, Mr. Edmonds From Mrs. Richardson to First Class and above: Dear First Class Scouts and above, and especially Isaac "the Mama", JD the former "Mama", and Steven the APL, You have a few days of no homework coming up, so I want Citizenships merit badges!!!! Mr. Thielman is now the Citizenship in the Nation Merit Badge Counselor and just cant wait to see all that quality work. I am still counseling Community and World. Congrats to Matt Keller, he has now finished all 3! Go Matt. I know Antonio Mireles is working on World - you go guy, as is Matthew Richardson - be glad you dont live with the Merit badge counselor, I have been nagging Matthew R. every day except Christmas. I know there is work progressing at the Lyles household. All you others get started... Happy New Year Mrs. Richardson A reminder: It is very important that scouts remember that they are not to run off by themselves at meetings and on campouts. We use the buddy system while swimming, boating, hiking and even in first aid. Make sure that you have a buddy at meetings and on campout in case something should happen to you, you will someone there to help. Finally, some of you may be aware that Mr. Carey Cox (or "New Mr. Cox" as hes often called) was injured in a cycling accident a few months back. He continues to recover and the word is his team at work cant wait to have him back. Due to his injuries, he is unable to drive and relies on friends and family to transport him and to transfer him from the vehicle to his wheelchair. Dr. Marshall (Rodneys dad) is helping to coordinate a group of men to help Mr. Cox get back to work. We are looking for dads who might be willing to drive Mr. Cox to or from his office at Lockheed and assist him in transferring from the vehicle to his wheelchair one or two times a month. Training will be provided if you dont know how to do wheelchair transfers. If you are interested, lease call Dr. Marshall
