[This is the first of several emails today so please review each one] This weekend we are headed to the Brazos river for our annual T17 canoe trip. There are several things to keep in mind for this trip... The lakes are up! The report from Lipan is that the Brazos is at its banks and moving fast. This is well south of where we canoe (south of I20), a few miles north of Granbury. Possum Kingdom lake is up 4 1/2 feet in the last week. Lake Palo Pinto is up almost 20 feet in the last month. This puts it at 97% "full" compared to less than 9% full a month ago. The flow of the Brazos at Highway 4 (near Rochelles) is currently 226 cubic feet per second. Compare this with 18 cfps when we canoed last year in March. Flow at the dam is about the same and the lake is still 8 feet below the conservation pool so we dont anticipate any additional water being released. Blue barrels - we have a limited supply of water tight "blue barrels" that are perfect for canoeing. If you have any extra barrels that are in good shape and you no longer use them, please consider dropping them by the Scout Lodge (the back porch is a nice location if you drop them off on another day. If you need one, please get one tonight. We encourage you to customize them so that they are identifiable on the river. We need to know TONIGHT how many people are going on the trip. Adults are encouraged to attend also. We need to plan for the right number of canoes so please let your patrol leader or me know that you are or are not attending (if you will not be at the meeting tonight). Please review the poop sheet posted on the troop website at http://www.troop17.net/docs_public/current_info.pdf There is a chance of rain all week so the river conditions may change. If they do, ultimately it will be a good thing for all of us. Regardless, we will be camping this weekend. We will need several adults to help with canoe shuttling Saturday morning and Sunday around lunch time. Saturday morning, we need to pull canoes to the PK dam and then return the vehicles to camp. Sunday, we will need to move the cars down to the boat docs so that we can pull the canoe trailers back. If you are available either day, please let me know. Once we know the participant count, we can determine how many vehicles we will need. I am really looking forward to the trip...it has been a while since weve seen a good flow in the river. Mr. Turner
