Hello Scouts (First Class rank and higher): So you have already finished Citizenship in the Community. Well, here we go! Seminar later in May to review work completedJ Attached are the worksheets for Citizenship in the Nation and Citizenship in the World. Please feel free to email me with questions. Requirement 1:Each begins with a definition of Citizenship You should know this by now but the internet can help. Requirement 2: Just do 2of the 4 options. If you have ever visited your State or the National Capital, I will count it, please include the date of your visit! Anyone who has visited Washington DC, you have choices on national Landmarks. Locally, the Tarrant County Courthouse is a listed. A local federal facility is the mint north of town Requirement 3 you will need to start watching the national news tonight or start reading the paper. Gosh is the Swine flu a big topic?!! You have a week long requirement to listen/read and pick out an issue. Requirement 4 get your history book or look it up on the internet. Requirement 5 dittoWe the People of the United States, in order to DO WHAT and What Did We DO Requirement 6 : I have a Dream Four score and 7 years ago, our fathers brought forth to this land Washingtons farewell address.. Ask NOT what your country can do for you, but ask what you can do for your countryor any other famous speech Requirement 7 see 4 & 5 the internet or history books. Requirement 8 write an elected official. Before you mail your letter let me read it. Recommended schedule, Thursday #1, Friday #2, Monday #4, Tuesday #5, Wednesday #3 & 6 ( by this time you will have watched all your newscasts to complete #3), Thursday #7, Friday #8- this is the letter - can you name your senators?. Requirement 2 Try the internet (for your countries you might try a European country like England and an Asian one like China) Requirement3 Hmmm a world event maybe like the swine flu Requirement 4 the internet is a great resource International law is kind of cool try the United Nations web site, or the other world organizations are interesting too Requirement 5&6 once again the internet is a great tool Requirement 7 is a little tougher. Some can be completed over the internet, but if you want to attend an internationals event in the area that is fine. I have had scouts attend concerts by the Russian symphony, or plays about other countries. Please check with me first. For C in the World, I recommend the following schedule: requirements 1 and 2 Thursday, Requirement 3 on Friday (finish 1 &2), Monday #4, Tuesday #5, and Wednesday #6, Thursday #7. This is a gift time - use it wisely!!!! Yours in Scouting Mrs. R.
