From the Longhorn Council.
Dear Scouting Member:
By now you have likely heard the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (LDS) will no longer charter Scouting units after December 2019. The information in the general public often becomes distorted so we wanted you to hear from us.
We refer you to the attached Joint Statement from the Church and the National office of the Boy Scouts of America. You will notice that both acknowledge the tremendous history and beneficial relationship that has existed between our two organizations for more than 100 years. Thousands and thousands of families have benefited from our cooperative relationship. Both organizations wish only the best for each other.
The LDS Church has a majority of its membership outside of the US. Their desire is to create and implement a uniform youth leadership program that serves its global membership. Church members who wish to continue with the Scouting program are encouraged to transition to other existing Scouting units.
Here in the Longhorn Council approximately 15% of our youth membership is currently registered in LDS chartered Scout units. Across the country, LDS membership represents 18% of the national total. While we will work diligently to welcome and incorporate all LDS families that wish to participate in Scouting programs, the Council and the BSA nationally, will continue to serve families with the best value-based leadership program in America.
Thank you for your personal involvement with Scouting in the Longhorn Council.
