For Scouts interested in Personal Fitness Merit Badge: We will be meeting Tues., Oct 28th at 6:45pm for the initial assessment (Running 1 mile, pushups, pullups, situps, flexibility test) and an explanation of the merit badge. Wear comfortable clothing for exercise and plan your dinner wisely (fast food and running often dont mix well.) This is an eagle required merit badge that requires a commitment to developing a weekly fitness routine that you are able to carry out over a 12 week period. Remember that the fitness plan needs to be approved by your counselor (aka me - Mrs Smith) and your parents PRIOR to starting your 12 weeks of training. Once you begin your training, you will record your daily activities for your log each day that you exercise. The goal is for you to better understand the components of a fitness plan, learn the discipline and endurance needed, and hopefully experience the satisfaction of an improved personal fitness level. Fitness Plans are due to Mrs Smith by Nov 11th. Once your plan has been turned in and approved, you may begin your workouts. You may return them to me or my husband at the scout meetings, or better yet, email them to smith_1@mac.com. We will have a couple of meetings to discuss fitness, nutrition and the written requirements for this merit badge. If you are unable to completed your initial fitness tests and run on Oct. 28th and are interested in completing this MB, contact me immediately! Lastly, if you have started this merit badge previously and havent completed it, Im assuming you may want a fresh start to begin again; please attend. Thanks, Mrs Smith 817-996-7797 cell

For those Personal Fitness MB scouts in town, we will be meeting this Tuesday evening (June 25th) at 6:30 pm at the scout lodge for our revisit to pushups, situps, chin ups and the beloved run. Please bring appropriate clothing for exercise and your H20 bottle. Most of you should have completed your 12 weeks of fitness training by now. I expect to see completed written reports and exercise logs turned into me by the end of this month! If you are not finished with your 12 weeks of exercise, out of town or are part of a Philmont trek and needing more time for completion, please contact me immediately so that we can discuss your progress and intentions. Communication is the key. If I do not hear from you, Im assuming that you want to retry this merit badge at a latter time. Looking forward to seeing your progress!

Many of you are on different time tables for completing your fitness logs and subsequently will complete your merit badge at different times. However, I would like all scouts currently working on personal fitness merit badge to complete the rest of the written requirements by June 7th. This gives you 4 weeks to complete your worksheets along with finish up school, take finals, etc... so hopefully you can pull out some good personal management skill. I will be at Scouts at 6:45 on June 7th to take final measurements for the 1 mile run, sit ups, etc.. If you cannot be there on the 7th, please contact me or Mr. Lyles to reschedule at another time. Please call if you have any questions!

Please remember that the first page of the worksheet on Requirement 1 (not the 2nd page) and Requirement 2 are due for a meeting at 6:45 pm Tuesday night. We will be recording measurements and running a mile again. If you havent had your fitness plan approved by Mr. Lyles or Mrs. Smith, bring it quickly; it will take you 12 weeks to complete!! This is the last week for fitness plans to be approved and started. If you are unable to attend the meeting, you are responsible for contacting Mrs. Smith for assignments/possible makeup opportunities.

Next meeting will be Tuesday, 22 March. Please bring your proposed routine in for review. These need to be turned in by the end of the meeting or additional requirements may be added. Keith Lyles  3/3/2011 7:26:13 AM
For those in Personal Fitness, Mrs. Smith dicussed the general plan, assgined everyone the task of developing a workout routine and bringing to the meeting on the 8th. Mr. Lyles will be there to review these plans. Also, the baseline strength and flexibility test was completed. A couple had the "go do" to complete this baseline test prior to the 8th. If you are one of these, please bring to the meeting. Also, dont forget to register for e-mails if interested in getting updates directly.
